Abstract

The Mental Health First Aid Essentials course provides critical training to strengthen safety culture and resilience across Canada’s mining and metallurgy sectors. Mining professionals face unique pressures—long shifts, remote work environments, and physically demanding conditions—that can heighten the risk of mental health challenges and safety incidents.

This program equips participants with evidence-based skills to recognize early warning signs, respond with confidence, and connect colleagues to appropriate resources.

Using mining-specific examples and scenarios, the course emphasizes how proactive mental health support contributes to incident prevention, stronger team cohesion, and healthier, more productive worksites.

By reducing stigma and fostering open dialogue, Mental Health First Aid Essentials empowers leaders, supervisors, and workers to build safer workplaces where both physical and psychological well-being are prioritized.
